Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be a part of the Technology Design Team in our Chicago, Illinois and have the opportunity to work on the high-profile Science & Technology, Entertainment and Hospitality Projects. EXP’s Technology Design department specializes in the design and specification of structured cabling systems, audio/visual systems, security systems and other Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and analytical skills are required. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in support of multiple projects is essential. 
  • Ability to work virtually and communicate efficiently across geographies with multiple project teams.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of the following:
    • Structured Cabling Systems (Voice/ Data Cabling)
    • Audio/Visual Systems (Background Music/ Overhead Paging Systems, Conference/ Ballroom/ Boardroom A/V and control systems)
    • Security Systems (Surveillance Systems, Physical Access Control Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems)
    • Other Communication Technology Systems (Nurse Call, Distributed Antenna Systems, Real Time Location Service System, etc.)
  • Ability to attend in-house coordination meetings and discuss design requirements with other engineers with input from Engineers.
  • Understand proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents – and deliver appropriate documentation with input from Engineers.
  • REVIT and AutoCAD proficient.
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases with input from Engineers.
  • Prepare calculations of equipment electrical loads and cooling loads with input from Engineers.
  • Read and interpret related industry codes and standards (e.g. NEC, FGI), and incorporate into designs.
  • Prepare floor plans showing low voltage device layouts, cable pathways, equipment, etc with input from Engineers.
  • Prepare system riser diagrams with input from Engineers.
  • Select and schedule equipment with input from Engineers.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines (MEPFP, Architectural, Structural, etc.)
  • Understand and properly apply existing exp details relevant to projects
  • Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in the work plan.
  • Prepare revisions (ASI’s, etc) and sketches according to proper numbering convention


What your experience looks like
-    5+ years experience in related design of Science & Technology, Entertainment and Hospitality projects.
-    Engineering Degree (BS Electrical, BS Architectural Engineering, or equivalent) from an accredited school.
-    Registered Engineer-In-Training or Professional Engineer preferred.
-    BICSI RCDD certification preferred.
-    Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites for walk thru activities (local and national locations)
-    Ability to work virtually cross-office geographies with multiple teams

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.

Be our next RLE Engineer – Site Civil! 

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Site Civil team based in Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Dallas, Southfield MI, St Louis MO, Atlanta GA, Dallas with consideration for hybrid work arrangements. The professional will focus on Site Civil/Land Development projects supporting the Buildings, Telecommunications, and Mission Critical practices nationally.  Project types and clients will vary with opportunities to be involved in projects across the United States. 

 What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Prepares engineering analysis, designs, and calculations for various aspects of site development projects under the supervision of an engineering manager.
  • Designs grading and drainage elements for site improvements.
  • Properly coordinates utility conflict resolutions and designs utility piping systems when required.
  • Analyzes site plan layout with attention to pedestrian circulation and vehicle movements.
  • Prepares erosion control documents including permitting and SWPPP submittals.
  • Performs hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for gravity and pressure piping systems.
  • Coordinates with multi-disciplinary teams as needed to finalize all design details.
  • Performs construction assistance related tasks including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), visiting job sites, reviewing submittals, and coordinating needed revisions (some travel may be required)
  • Works with dynamic design teams including architects, engineers, land use attorneys, surveyors, and contractors.

 What your experience looks like

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Civil Engineering or related role (site development experience preferred).
  • EIT certification preferred and working towards PE.
  • Ability to problem solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and present timely questions to development project/technical understanding.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience in OpenSite Designer is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in code and permit requirement research applications.
  • Ability to travel for 1-2 day site inspection/meeting trips (one trip per month or less average).
  • Strong self-initiative to meet deadlines and advance projects.

The salary range for this role is $72,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Be our next RLE Senior Civil Engineer

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Infrastructure & Transportation Practice that is primarily focused on multi-modal transportation and infrastructure projects.  The ideal candidate will work in the Chicago office following our current hybrid work protocols and report to the Civil Department Manager.  We would consider a candidate who wanted to work out of Our Madison, St. Louis or Milwaukee offices. The candidate will report to the Civil Department Manager. You will act as a member of the infrastructure team and will get an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects involving roadway, bridge, aviation, transit and rail across the Midwest.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Perform and lead engineering design tasks for infrastructure projects at any phase from conceptual to final design.
  • Develop plans, specifications, reports and technical studies, calculate quantities, and develop cost estimates.
  • Possess excellent in-depth knowledge of civil design software tools including Bentley’s MicroStation Connect and OpenRoads Designer CAD platforms.
  • Mentor and develop new engineers in infrastructure planning and design.
  • Lead and coordinate design activities between staff, subcontractors, and clients
  • Perform technical analyses and reviews of infrastructure projects.
  • Support Project Managers/Project Engineers to ensure projects meet the defined schedules, budget, and quality standards. This may include assisting in the development of Project Management Plans, Scopes of Work, Cost Estimates, and other project planning related activities.
  • Assists in preparing and developing proposals, and presentations as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What your experience looks like

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering required from an ABET accredited school
  • 15+ plus years of experience.
  • Licensed PE in the State of Illinois
  • In depth knowledge of MicroStation Connect and Open Roads. A background in 3D modeling is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate will want to focus on a technical based career track providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in highway/roadway design and geometrics or traffic and safety engineering. 
  • Experience with a wide variety of clients and project types across the Midwest is desirable. Extensive knowledge of IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, CDOT and WisDOT is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment on a fast-paced projects Excellent organizational skills and ability to direct and supervise staff engineers and technicians
  • Ability to interface efficiently in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel and Project and other Microsoft 365 software.

The salary range for this role is $135,000 to $185,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location.
